Harvest Homecoming Studio Tour

Thanksgiving Weekend 2010

 

This tour offers a perfect opportunity for family and friends to spend time together touring beautiful fall scenery and exploring 5 Studios with over 10 Artists, all within a 15 km radius of Kinmount.  The tour is free and runs from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday & Sunday, October 9 & 10.  Pick up your brochure/map at Kinmount Artisans Marketplace or at various locations around town. 

 

Studio A

Judy & Ed’s Porch and Barn – Folk Art & Collectibles (705) 488-2201

219 Galway Road, 1 km east of Hwy. 121, south of Kinmount.

Specializing in folk art & wood crafts, many of Judy & Ed’s unique creations feature seasonal themes.  A warm welcome always awaits Studio Tour Visitors when visiting their century old farmhouse.   

Liz Feyerabend – Artist in Acrylics (705) 286-0301 

During the Studio Tour Liz will display her work at Judy & Ed’s Porch & Barn.  Liz’s unique style of painting has been described a colourful kaleidoscope of abstract shapes that shift & change as you follow the lines.

Crazy Horse Studio – Stained Glass & Gifts – Linda & Bill McGillivray (705) 488-2860

368 Galway Road, 2 km east of Hwy. 121, south of Kinmount.

Linda & Bill have many years experience creating exceptional stained glass pieces.  Nestled back in the woods, you will find original designs for every taste at Crazy Horse Studio.  Linda teaches at Haliburton School of Fine Arts.

 

Studio C

Brenda Mulholland – Visual Artist-Multi-Media (705) 488-1574

421 Somerville 9th Concession, 4.5 km west of Hwy. 121, south of Kinmount.

Visit Brenda at her rustic log home studio.  Brenda’s alluring ‘feel good’ images must be seen!  Mixing found objects in watercolour, acrylics and/or inks to crate playful textures, light & shadow, Brenda evolves her ‘Soft Realism’ style into something new & different every year.  Paint, Graphite & Inks on Papers, Canvas, Cedar Board, Birch Bark …and yes, murals too!  Brenda offers Drawing/Watercolour classes, the next beginning in October. 

Donna Stover – Watercolour Artist (705) 447-2010

Donna is displaying her paintings at Brenda Mulholland’s Studio.  Donna gets inspiration from the natural scenes of the northland landscapes surrounding her home in the Kawarthas at Salmon Lake.  Her paintings show a brightness & glow of the different seasons that enhances the imagination.  Donna has also added still-life subjects in her paintings.

Kinmount Artisan’s Marketplace (705) 488-1414

Lower level of Kinmount Community Centre, west of Main St. on County Road 45.

The Kinmount Artisans Marketplace is a retail outlet where members display & sell their art or handcrafted wares throughout the year.  View an outstanding selection of unique items displayed in a quaint, characteristic setting. 

Robert John Paul MacBrien – Artist in Oils (705) 489-2456

Robert is displaying his paintings at Kinmount Artisans Marketplace.  When Robert was just 12 years old, H.W. Wagner, an artist who studied under the Group of Seven, stayed with the MacBrien family and gave young Robert instruction in art.  After years of practice, Robert began painting the picturesque scenery of beautiful Haliburton Highlands.  Five of his paintings are on permanent display at Stanhope Library.  One large painting, depicting Minden’s Main Street at the turn of the century, was donated to Highland Crest in memory of his father Victor MacBrien who resided there until his death.  Robert has photographed some of his paintings and had them processed on note cards, which are available in a few locations around the country.  Robert continues to paint, demonstrating painting techniques in the Heritage Building each September at the Kinmount Fair.  His recent works include scenes from the Yukon and Alaska. 

Ruth MacBrienTatting (705) 489-2456

Ruth joins her husband Robert at Kinmount Artisans Marketplace for the Studio Tour.  Ruth’s grandmother taught her to tat when she was 12 years old.  She has demonstrated tatting at local Fairs and Heritage Days, and at the Pioneer building at Kinmount Fair for the last 12 years.  Framed pieces of her tatting have been displayed in local galleries in Haliburton and Minden, and at Kinmount Artisans Marketplace. 

 

Studio E

Barb Leffering – Quilt-A-Grafix (705) 488-1312

The Quilter’s Inn, 6 Hunter Street, Kinmount, next to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Barb has been quilting since 1995.  Inspired by her sister Shirley (a quilter with tenure) she began piecing and designing at her cottage near Kinmount.  In preparation for retirement from her city job, Barb purchased a Longarm Quilting Machine and perfected her techniques in (pantograph) edge to edge quilting.  Barb’s quilts reflect the many contrasts of colour and form found in Nature.  Recently acquired, Barb’s home/Studio focuses its entire facility to the needs and desires of Quilters. 

Karen BottcherJewellery Design (705) 738-4109

Karen is showing her work at The Quilter’s Inn.  Since the 70’s Karen has been a textile artist who in the last 5 years has put her talents to making jewellery.  Karen studied wire wrapped jewellery at the Haliburton School of Fine Arts.  Since then Karen added her own touch to jewellery by incorporating crochet, knitting and embroidery in wire.  Look closely at her jewellery and you will find sterling silver, semi-precious stones, 14 k gold filled, copper, brass, glass, buttons and a number of found objects.  Karen enjoys belonging to craft co-ops as it gives her a chance to see and experience what others are creating. 

Please make sure to have your brochure signed by each of the Artisans at every location you visit.  At your final Studio, please write your name and telephone number on your brochure and leave with the Host artist who will return all brochures to Kinmount Artisans Marketplace for a draw taking place the following Saturday.
